Marilyn: In the Flash

Marilyn: In The Flash

Movie buffs and fans of Marilyn Monroe will love this gorgeous book filled with photos of the legendary icon!

Photographically, Marilyn was at her most electrifying at public events. She was as spectacular in the posed candids of press photographers as in studio portraits or on the movie screen. She made any news photo a work of art simply by being in it, and more than any other star lived up to the promise of her screen image.

One of the most publicized actresses of her time, Marilyn actively sought out the press - which included the famous journalists and columnists Walter Winchell, Edward R. Murrow, Hedda Hopper, Louella Parsons, Earl Wilson, Pete Martin, Sidney Skolsky, Elsa Maxwell, and Dorothy Kilgallen. It was a mutually beneficial relationship that lasted her entire career.

In Marilyn: In The Flash, acclaimed photographic preservationist David Wills brings together an unprecedented trove highlighting the work of some of the great press photographers and photojournalists of the twentieth century. This stunning collection includes many unpublished images (most beautifully restored from original prints, negatives, or transparencies), vintage magazine articles, original press clippings and press photo captions, behind-the-scenes notes, and photographic ephemera chronicling the media's lifelong love affair with Marilyn.

What are you most thankful for?

I am most thankful for my incredible family and being able to wake up and pursue the things that I love.

How will you celebrate Thanksgiving this year?

This year I will be having two Thanksgivings. One of them will be the day before with my immediate family at home and the other will be at my Aunt's house on thanksgiving with the rest of my family. Double the thanks and double the food!

What is the best holiday gift that you ever gave someone?

The best holiday gift I ever gave someone was a shirt I made for a friend with a bunch of ironic sayings.

What is the best Holiday gift that you have received?

The best holiday gift I ever received would have to be my first phone. I'm not sure exactly what kind of phone it was but it was awesome. I could play music, text and take average looking pictures.

Describe your favorite Holiday memory.

My favorite holiday memory was Christmas, last year, when my whole family came to my house and we all watched a loop of a fake campfire on TV even though the real fire place was on. The irony was not lost on us.

What are your favorite holiday songs?

My favorite holiday song is Snowflakes... but only when SpongeBob sings it.

How will you spend the Holidays this year?

This year we are going traditional and doing the same thing but, knowing us, there will be some shenanigans.

Do you have any New Year's resolutions?

My New Year's resolution is to become a vegan and be a better person.

Do you have a Holiday message for your fans?

For everyone out there I hope you have an amazing holiday. I remind you to be grateful for what you have, always.

Sledge Grits BandSledge Grits Band

Meet these 4 singing sisters whose single "Am What I Am" is available now!

What are you most thankful for?

Ella: The constant love and support of everyone around me, God and Cheesecake.

Keiko: Music, family, cheesecake, laughter.

bo-Pah: Umm family maybe? I don't know. I would not have them without God.

Mimi: Music, Christianity, writing, singing, health, friends and family, animals, ice cream!

How will you celebrate Thanksgiving this year?

We all usually wake up early and watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Mama and Ella cook enough food to feed an entire army haha. We usually talk about things we are thankful for and say a prayer. Then, we all eat until we are about to pop!!!! We usually watch Christmas movies or tv, bake cookie so and then we decorate the house and set up our Christmas tree at night!

Also bo-Pah says: Eatingggggg. Lots of food, I love Thanksgiving!!!!!

What is the best Christmas gift that you ever gave someone?

Ella: I made puzzle piece necklaces, that all interlocked. That was my favorite thing I've ever given anyone.

Keiko: Last year I gave everyone handmade wish necklaces, with little jars of fairy dust in them. The people I gave them to were meant to put their New Years resolutions inside. I was very proud of them, I think they turned out nicely.

bo-Pah: My love.

Mimi: I got each of my sisters little dolls for Christmas a few years ago. Their dresses and hats matched each of my sisters birthstones!

What is the best Christmas gift that you have received?

Ella: My dog,Yuki!

Keiko: When I was little I wanted a Miracle Moves Doll. I thought it was amazing and it was what I wanted most. My parents pretended that we had opened up every gift. Then, right when I thought I didn't get the doll, they gave me the package! I loved that thing to death. Mimi broke it, the head fell off, I didn't forgive her for that for a while.

bo-Pah: My birth. (Yes don't think about it)

Mimi: I got an Easy bake oven one year-that was pretty cool. I also got a real amethyst ring last year that I love- and a Guinea pig when I was 9!

Describe your favorite Holiday memory.

Ella: The first time I ever cooked a full Thanksgiving dinner because it was one of the reasons why I fell in love with cooking.

Keiko: I love all the little moments. I think as we get older, the memory of specific gifts we received fades but all the little things remain important. I love the memories of decorating Christmas cookies as a kid with my parents, and my dad putting the star on the tree every year, and watching the same nostalgic movies every year.

bo-Pah: I love our family traditions we do every year. Like, throwing sugar cubes and baby carrots on the roof for the reindeer. We always have to leave milk and cookies for Santa and celebrate Mimi's annual Christmas sleepover!

Mimi: Our SISTER Christmas party I've thrown every year since I was 7!

What are your favorite Christmas songs?

Ella: "Oh Tannenbaum" because we always sing it while we put up the Christmas Tree....and we will sing it really bad on purpose and It's hilarious.

Keiko: "Oh Holy Night"

bo-Pah: "Silent Night", "I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas", "I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus"

Mimi: I love any Christmas songs! My little sister and I think "I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus" is really weird and funny though!

How will you spend the Holidays this year?

We all just love spending time together for the holidays. We will watch lots of Christmas movies, eat lots of cookies, and just enjoy being with each other.

Do you have any New Year's resolutions?

Ella: Not yet

Keiko: I'm not sure yet, but I'll be turning 21, so I'd like to just make my 21st year my best one yet...to not stress so much and to make the most of everything.

bo-Pah: No not yet.... But it's not like it matters that much. I never end up keeping them anyways!

Mimi: Nope! I usually do pretty good at keeping them though!

Do you have a holiday message for your fans?

We hope you get everything you want for Christmas, lots of hot chocolate and cookies, all the hugs you can stand, make lots of noise at midnight on New Years, and that you feel loved every day of the holiday season!!

I'm most thankful for God and my salvation at all times, but particularly at this special time of the year.

This holiday season, I will be back home in Oklahoma spending quality time with my family. I love spending time with my wonderful family, and I can't wait to get back! :

What is the best Christmas gift that you ever gave someone?

I have always felt that the best gifts to give around the holidays are gifts that help other people in need. Christmas is a time for giving and, one year, I had a special friend who needed help getting his life back on track. I was able to get involved with an organization that was able to give him the kind of help he needed. I was so glad that I had the opportunity to help out an organization that later helped a personal friend of mine.

Describe your favorite Holiday memory.

My favorite memory is actually a family tradition that we still do to this day. After my family opens presents around the tree, we all have breakfast together. "Merry Christmas Darling" - Carpenters, "A Baby Changes Everything" - Faith Hill, "White Christmas" - Bing Crosby

Keep an eye out for up-and-coming actor,Presley Massara. The Australia native stars in the big-screen adaption of the popular book "The Pineville Heist" coming to theaters in 2015!

What are you most thankful for?

For the Doctors and Nurses that work in Oncology around the world. My Pop is still with us even though he's had invasive Cancer for over nine years now, so I'm thankful I've had the opportunity to create 9 more years of memories with him.

How will you celebrate Thanksgiving this year?

It's my first Thanksgiving ever as it's not really celebrated in Australia. We will go to Church in the morning, then we have decided to start our first tradition where we secretly wash a few of our neighbours cars to surprise them.

What is the best Christmas gift that you ever gave someone?

I had run out of pocket money at the time, so I printed vouchers for free hugs, free shoulder massages and vouchers for me to keep silent for 5 minutes at a time (my Mom photocopied those ones to use more often when I used to fight with my sister!).

What is the best Christmas gift that you have received?

It sounds boring but honestly it was a scrabble set that was left to me by an awesome lady in a nursing home. I have it put away as it's incredibly special to me as I know it was the thing she loved the most.

Describe your favorite Holiday memory.

My family get togethers on the first week of December each year. We are from a huge Italian, Irish family so there's always over 100 of us there. When you hear the words 'Dinners ready' you literally drop everything and run to the table (even though there's plenty of food - we still fight to get in line first).

What are your favorite Christmas songs?

Grandma got run over by a Reindeer. Sorry Nanna!

How will you spend the Holidays this year?

The best way - with family and my close friends.

Do you have any New Year's resolutions?

I do and I'm pretty good at keeping them. This year I'm vowing to 'pay it forward' each week with random gestures and never post about them on social media.

Holiday Memories Hall of Fame!!

We kept some of our favorite memories from years past to share again this year!

Landry BenderLandry Bender

Landry Bender can be seen on the fun Disney XD show, "Crash and Bernstein." The thirteen year old loves script-writing and playing her guitar! She shares her Holiday thoughts below!

What are you most thankful for?
I'm most thankful for my family and friends. I wouldn't be anywhere in my career or in my life without them without their support.

How will you celebrate Thanksgiving this year?
My family and I are going to have dinner at our friend's house. He's actually the assistant head football coach for USC so hopefully there are no football players there to eat all the food.

What is the best Christmas gift that you ever gave someone?
I try really hard to be creative with my gifts but sometimes it's tough. My Dad is hard to shop for so I really think about that gift every year to make it special. He always hated slippers but a couple of years ago my mom and I bought him some UGG slippers and you can tell when he opened the box he wasn't impressed. He put them on though and now wears them EVERYDAY! He's even on his second pair!

What is the best Christmas gift that you have received?
My parents are great at getting me gifts that are always the perfect fit. One year they gave me Final Draft for my computer so I could write scripts another year a guitar. Both of those gifts meant a lot because they help me with my career which means so much to me.

Describe your favorite Holiday memory.
I don't remember one specific year but every Christmas we go to Utah where my mom's side of the family lives. My uncles and cousins are all really fun. We play board games, go sledding, eat junk food and drink hot cocoa. It's always so much fun.

What are your favorite Christmas songs?
"All I Want For Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey but I also love the version of that same song the little girl did in "Love Actually."

How will you spend the Holidays this year?
Another trip to Utah where I am sure we will make some more fun memories. I am also looking forward to some fun parties we've been invited to go to.

Do you have any New Year’s resolutions?

I told you earlier about my guitar and script writing - I am going to continue writing scripts and also play my guitar. Both are fun so they aren't those resolutions that are hard to keep.

Do you have a holiday message for your fans?
DRINK LOTS OF HOT COCOA!!!!!

What is the best Christmas gift that you ever gave someone?

E - I gave my toys away to a charity once, we're so blessed and it was really nice being able to give back.

R - I gave my mom a ring with a swan on it... she cried and told me it was the best gift she'd ever got... I was like boom Dad, you better up your game.

What is the best Christmas gift that you have received?

R - My ripstick! I loved that thing, I was on it every single day.

E - I got a really cool guitar one year.

J - Ah man, I got an awesome electric guitar one year but I think my favorite gift has to be the rocking horse my uncle hand-carved for me to ride when I was younger.

Describe your favorite Holiday memory.

J - My favorite memories are when I visited my aunt and uncle, we had pygmy turkey that my uncle made, I drove a stick-shift for the first time in their back yard and we went snowboarding down the hills at their home!

R - You can't do that in California.

J - You definitely can't!

E - Unless you go to Big Bear, they have snow there.

R - I was thinking more Los Angeles than California.

J - We should go snowboarding in California.

E - Everyone pray for snow in Los Angeles so we can snowboard there!

R - OK, My favorite holiday memory is writing letters to Santa, I would write to him asking him to wake me up when he came to my house.

E - And did he ever wake you up ?

R - No but I'm a heavy sleeper

E - Mine would have to be the giant snowball fight I had with all my friends back home. #eastcoast winters

What are your favorite Christmas songs?

R - There's so many to choose from but I'll go traditional and say Silent Night or Santa Clause Is Coming To Town.

J - I love 'You're A Mean One Mr Grinch' (starts singing), 'Carol Of The Bells' and 'Rocking Around The Christmas Tree.'

E - Ooh good choices.

E - I really like the song 'Believe' by Josh Groban.

Home Entertainment

Hoping to catch some great movies at home this Holiday season or catch up on the TV shows that you missed ? Add these great titles to your wish list!

You'll Laugh! You'll Cry! You'll Fall in Love With "Inside Out!"

Inside Out

Happy! Sad! Angry! We've all dealt with the range of emotions that accompany everyday life. As we all know, most teenagers can feel them all in a matter of minutes!

The Disney/Pixar team took this concept and worked their movie magic on it, thus producing the rollercoaster of emotions that is the film, "Inside Out." Critics and audiences both raved about this must-see film that is now available on Blu-ray, DVD and digital download.

Riley is a beautifully complex, 11 year old girl who has a lot on her mind. Inside her head, five emotions Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness all work together to get Riley through life. The team is put to the test when small-town Riley is uprooted and moved to the big city of San Francisco. Can the quintet manage to figure out how to make Riley happy again?

Young and old will find a piece of themselves mirrored in this gorgeously animated film. Gather the whole family and experience the range of emotions together.

Bonus material on the Blu-ray + DVD combo pack include the short-film "Lava" and several "making of" featurettes. You can own this masterpiece by picking it up at most places where Blu-rays and DVDs are sold. You can also order it for delivery here:

It's Back! "Terminator Genisys" Attempts to Save The World... 2015 Style!

Terminator Genisys

There’s no question: 2015 is the year for resurrected franchises. Between Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Jurassic World, and Mad Max: Fury Road, Hollywood is without a doubt in love with the 80s and 90s. The latest of these revivals arrives on Blu-ray and DVD in the form of killer cyborgs from the future. Terminator: Genisys promises a ton of action as it puts some well-known characters through an altered timeline of events for a new take on an old favorite.

Genisys begins in the future during the war between the humans and the machines, just before the time traveling that kicks off the first film. (That leads one to ask whether this film is technically a sequel, a reboot, or something else. But there are enough difficult questions in the movie without thinking too hard on that one!) From here we get to see some things that we had only heard about or seen quick snippets of before, like the nature of the war, John Connor rallying the human resistance, and the time machine itself. (If you’ve seen the first two Terminator movies, the rest of this summary will make sense; if not, good luck!) John Connor leads Kyle Reese and his troops into the compound that houses the device, where the machines have just sent a Terminator back in time to kill his mother. Of course, John already knew this would happen because his mother told him about it, so he is all ready to send the loyal Kyle back to protect her. John also knows that Kyle will fall in love with his mother and become his father but can’t tell him in case it would affect his decision to go. What he doesn’t know is that both the machines and the humans will send (or have sent?) other cyborgs back to other points in Sarah Connor’s life, making things pretty interesting. And just as Kyle is about to disappear, someone else (perhaps from even further in the future?) starts to cause problems. That’s when Kyle bumps his head and starts having memories from two different timelines, both of which will affect what he does in the past (his future). But that’s as much as we can say here. Besides the risk of spoilers, it would just be too hard to explain in text.

The Cool Stuff:

As you can see from our brief description, this film requires a lot of thought to follow its complex science-fiction concepts. For this reviewer, that adds to the fun. If you like sci-fi, particularly time travel, you’ll have a great time just following all the twists the writers have managed to work in. If you can avoid spoilers beforehand (and there are a few small ones in this review, so be warned), this film is one surprise after another.

The altered timeline—not to mention a big budget—allows the audience to see some things we never did before. What if a Terminator’s learning chip were on for decades instead of days? What if Kyle and Sarah had more than just two days together? What if they both knew their fate? What if the tough-as-nails Sarah from T2 had that attitude sooner? Many who have seen the first two films have probably thought about these things at some point, and the screenwriters for Genisys were undoubtedly part of that camp. They give us a taste of what else could be if these characters were thrown into slightly different circumstances. And it’s great fun.

Besides that, the cast is sure to please fans of various franchises. Emilia Clarke sets aside her blond wig and medieval glory from Game of Thrones to don an American accent and a shotgun as Sarah Connor. Jai Courtney, the Aussie who appeared in Jack Reacher and A Good Day to Die Hard, plays Kyle Reese, Sarah’s protector and love interest. We also get to see Jason Clarke of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes bring new dimensions to John Connor. Even Matt Smith (the eleventh incarnation of the Doctor on Doctor Who) makes an unforgettable appearance.

And of course, what would a Terminator movie be without the titular cyborg himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger? (Okay, we know. The fourth one. But that’s beside the point.) Not only do we get to see the Governator at several different stages of life. Not only do we get to see a fatherlike T-800 trying ever-so-hard to smile like a human. We also get to watch as post-politics Arnold gets into an epic battle with his Mr. Universe-era self. We get massive explosions, fights on helicopters, and one transformation after another for the killer bot. Few films can set such high standards in action and visual effects and then meet them, but this one pulls it off with style.

The Less Cool Stuff:

Almost everything you loved about The Terminator and Terminator 2 is back for Genisys. Almost. Even now, the original 1984 film holds up for its solid storytelling and directorial choices. Stylistically, the relatively low budget lends it a certain enjoyment that you don’t often find in the epic CGI-fests you see today. And thematically, the David-and-Goliath conflict and cat-and-mouse plot provided a visceral simplicity that was engaging and moving at all levels.

This movie is many things, but simple is not one of them. (Were you confused by our synopsis earlier? That was just the first ten minutes!) While some will enjoy the wild twists this movie takes us on, others may find themselves confused and frustrated as they try to make sense of the altered, intersecting timelines. Still other viewers will follow the convoluted “temporal nexus” (as Arnold’s friendly Terminator calls it) only to become annoyed at the inevitable loose ends such a plot leaves behind. For a geek like this reviewer, a mixed-up timeline is fun, but the contradictions can be distracting.

Another potential distraction is the comparisons many fans will make with the original film and its actors. Sometimes a franchise reaches the point where there have just been too many sequels, and none live up to the artistry of the first—or in this case, the first two. Given the new approach the filmmakers took with this movie, it will almost certainly be received better than the less popular Rise of the Machines and Salvation, but die-hard fans of the original might prove hard to impress without James Cameron at the helm.

The Overall

Whatever some might say, this reviewer loved it. It may not be a perfect film, and it’s hard for any sequel to live up to the expectations of such an iconic franchise, but Genisys gets so many things right that even the pickiest of viewers can have two hours of summertime blockbuster fun.

What stands out is how well this movie follows in the footsteps of T2. The first of the sequels flipped the 1984 film on its head by making the Terminator a protector; a slimmer, trustworthy-looking police officer the killer; and Sarah Connor an oppressed warrior in a mental hospital. This new movie reverses the situation again by changing Sarah’s whole life, re-introducing the T-1000, and even altering the role John Connor comes to play. Some sequels try to tell the same story again with just a few small tweaks, but like Judgment Day, Genisys turns what came before it on its head, delivering plenty of twists and suspense to keep the audience guessing along the way.

In the end, while it may not blow you away quite the way the first two films did, most will agree that Terminator: Genisys is a significant improvement over the films that came in between. For this reviewer, it’s a great choice for the summer movie season and an awesome throwback to a favorite from the past. If you liked the original, if you enjoy good sci-fi, or if you just want a well-conceived adventure that you can munch a large tub of popcorn to, you’ll have an incredible time.

Even if you don’t care for any of those things, you’ll definitely enjoy seeing the different ages and looks that Arnold Schwarzenegger plays. Just like he promised, the Terminator is definitely back.

Bonus features on the Blu-ray + DVD combo pack include a behind-the-scenes look at casting the movie and filming on location. You can buy a copy of this action-packed thrill ride at most places where home entertainment is sold. You can also have it shipped to your door (probably not delivered by a drone though, sorry!) by clicking here:

You First: Journal Your Way to Your Best Life by Lea Michele

You First

We loved her on "Glee" and can't get enough of her on "Scream Queens," but Lea Michele captures our attention in the Literary World as well.

In her first book, Brunette Ambition, Lea Michele shared a lot of the secrets and stories behind her success, and how she manages to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle despite her hectic schedule. Now, in her second book, she will teach readers how they, too, can be their best selves. In Lea's opinion, keeping a journal and asking yourself the hard questions about what you want out of life is the best way to achieve your dreams, so she has outlined a series of exercises, prompts, and lists based on her own personal program. Lea's guided journal will address all the topics she wrote about in Brunette Ambition, including fitness, diet, work, school, and relationships, but with all-new material to help readers reach their goals. Peppered between the advice and exercises will be fun personal anecdotes from Lea to motivate and inspire readers to put themselves first and live their best life.
