Keith Urban Celebrates Get Closer Album Release With Listening Party and Gets a Surprise!

2010 CMA Entertainer and Male Vocalist of the Year nominee Keith Urban held a listening event for the release of his seventh Capitol Records Nashville album, GET CLOSER, November 8 at the Hard Rock Café.

Guests not only got to hear a sneak peek of the new album, which will be released November 16, but they were also treated with a surprise live performance by Urban who performed his current single “Put You In A Song,” the Get Closer album track “Without You,” and “Walkin’ The Country” from Urban’s days as part of the group The Ranch.

Capitol Records Nashville President & CEO Mike Dungan surprised Urban with a Platinum ® plaque signifying sales of over 1 million copies of his last album Defying Gravity. All of Keith Urban’s solo albums have been certified Platinum ®.

Congratulations Laura Van Remortal!

Laura Van Remortel, a Sugarland fanatic from Green Bay WI, thought she was participating in a segment about people who have found inspiration from others on the nationally-syndicated “The Nate Berkus Show.” During the segment that she taped in the New York City studio on November 4, Laura explained to Nate that she credits her favorite Sugarland song, “Something More” for helping her through her toughest times. Little did she know that Nate had “Something More” in store for her…a surprise visit by Sugarland’s own Jennifer Nettles!  Nettles, who later talked to Nate about her love of design, presented the hysterical fan with a framed music sheet to her favorite song.  The heart-warming surprise and Nettles interview will be featured on the Friday, November 19th edition of “The Nate Berkus Show” (check your local listings). Leading U.S. performing right organization Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) saluted the songwriters and publishers behind country music’s most-performed songs of the past year during the 58th annual BMI Country Awards. The ceremony was held in the company’s Music Row offices. BMI President & CEO Del Bryant hosted the gala with Jody Williams, Vice President, Writer/Publisher Relations, Nashville.

At 20 years old, Taylor Swift became the youngest person ever to win the BMI Country Songwriter of the Year crown. She is followed by Bill Anderson, who won the honor in 1960 at 23, and Johnny Cash, who won in 1956 at 24. Swift earned the award thanks to her self-recorded compositions “Fifteen,” “White Horse” and “You Belong With Me,” as well as “Best Days of Your Life,” recorded by Kellie Pickler.

“You Belong With Me” also earned Swift her third consecutive BMI Country Song of the Year win, making her the only songwriter ever to win the award three years in a row. In 2008, she became the youngest songwriter ever to win the honor, while earlier this year she became the youngest individual ever to pen the BMI Pop Song of the Year. Co-written with frequent collaborator Liz Rose, the song is published by Sony/ATV Tree, Taylor Swift Music, Orbison Music LLC, and Wagnerville Music.

With 1,046,718 copies sold in the US in the first week of release, Taylor Swift’s Speak Now album has scored SoundScan’s biggest single-week sales total since 2005 and is the biggest debuting country studio album in history.
