The Human and Muppet Stars Talk "Muppets Most Wanted"

What happens when you put the human stars and the Muppet stars of "Muppets Most Wanted" together in a room full of reporters? Much like the movie... hilarity ensues! Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais, and Ty Burrell joined Kermit The Frog, Sam The Eagle, Constantine (an evil Kermit Look-A-Like) and the fashionably late, Miss Piggy in discussing the making of Disney's "Muppets Most Wanted!"

What did inquiring minds want to know? Well, the first questions wondered why Kermit didn't play both himself and his dead-ringer Constantine in the film? "Well, you know it didn't make sense for me to play Constantine," Kermit responded. "Cause we do have a few scenes together and I don't really work on green screen! So we couldn't really make that work. But plus, listen Constantine is actually a-a distant cousin, from Russia," he joked. "So, it was better to get him to do it. He has the voice you know!"

"He is actually from Russia?" Sam, (the very patriotic) Eagle questioned? "Well, I'm afraid so Sam. I'm afraid so," Kermit replied. "Thank goodness you're sitting between the two of us. That's all I can say," Sam retorted.

The humans, who are more known for acting than singing, were asked how they felt about being in a musical. "Well, I was okay with singing. I'm a failed pop star," Ricky joked. "I always sneak a song into everything I do. My dancing is a little awkward, a little embarrassed about that. I don't move well. But I was with a frog," he replied, referring to Constantine. "And he was... he's a great tap danc... well, more a flap dancer! "I did flap dancing," Constantine confirmed. "Yeah, flap dancing on my head," Ricky added. "So, yeah no one's gonna be looking at me when we're doing that dance. They're gonna say there's a frog dancing. That's what gonna be happening. So, yeah I got away with it!"

"And my singing sounds like if you've ever seen the version of Oliver when the little boy sings and you can hear the hiss of how loud they had to turn up the microphone," added Tina. "My singing sounds like that." Kermit disagreed. "No, no that's not true. You were great! You were great!"

"But I think you know, Bret wrote really, really good songs," Tina acknowledged. "That make us seem good." "Pretty amazing," Ricky added. "Yep! Yep!" Kermit agreed.

Another question posed was "What do you think kids will like most about this movie?" To which Tina answered, "I think they're gonna like how funny the movie is because, you know, I think there's a lot of jokes in the movie and kids who are like 8, 9, 10 years old they take a lot of pride in getting the jokes. It makes them feel big." "Yeah, it doesn't patronize kids," Ricky added. "I remember when I was a kid watching the Muppets. I had older brothers and sisters and they were laughing and I sort of knew that it was cool as well, you know. Good for me so I think kids relate to that. They like things that adults like." Ty added, "I have an IQ of a seven-year-old and I loved this movie so much!"

Did the humans learn anything from working with the Muppets and vise versa? "I was constantly inspired by the Muppets," Ty admitted. "I've never realized just how over rated I was until you go out and do a scene with somebody, who's doing eight things at once," he joked. "While all I have to do is try to remember my words which I fail at miserably!"

Miss Piggy finally arrived and Kermit and Constantine joked about how she still can't tell them apart. "It kinda took some of the pressure off me," Kermit confessed. "She just sees green. It's wonderful!"

Tina took the opportunity to introduce herself. "Hi! Miss Piggy! We haven't actually met." "I know. We didn't really do much together on the movie," Miss Piggy replied. "No, you refused to meet me," Tina reminded her. "Hello Tina," Miss Piggy said shortly, indicating that the room wasn't big enough to handle these two actresses.

One reporter asked if working on these movie gave the actors street cred with their children. Ty was the first to answer. "My kids are still so unimpressed by me. I'm banking this one. I've learned this already from other kids' project that it's if I wanna save my ego I'm gonna bank this. I'm gonna put it out in five years or something. But so far, it's one minute of 'Why is daddy on screen?' and 90 minutes of' I'm hungry!'"

"I haven't got children," Ricky added. "But when I found out I was doing this film I just went and hung around schools telling 'em. Just at play time. I said, 'Hey kids! You don't know who I am yet but do you know the Muppets? Oh, yeah! You wait, you're going to be impressed'" he joked.

There are several cameos by stars in "Muppets Most Wanted," so one reporter asked Miss Piggy what it was like working with Celine Dion? "Well, working with Celine Dion, it was a pleasure. It was a joy for her naturally," Miss Piggy replied. "Yes, I'm only too happy to let her ride my coat tails up to the Oscar stage. Yes, it was a joy. We only spent a little time together, but it was very meaningful to her."

Our Review

"Muppets Most Wanted" is a Fun-Filled, Global, Musical Adventure!!

by Lee Peglow

Disney's newest movie "Muppets Most Wanted," directed by James Bobin, picks up as if no time has passed since the original Muppets movie in 2011. They return to the stage all together and ready to take their act on a traveling tour across Europe. Of course they can't do such a tour without a big Hollywood Agent so they sign Dominic Badguy, who is in fact a "bad guy," played by Ricky Gervais. Little do the Muppets know that they are unintentionally embarking on a European jewel heist!

Dominic Badguy, however, is not the man in charge. He just happens to be working for Kermit's Russian doppleganger, Constantine. Constantine is an evil genius who has escaped from a Siberian prison where Nadya (played by Tina Fey) is the intimidating yet theatrical prison ward. Constantine's intention is to impersonate Kermit in order to become the greatest thief in the world!

See a clip from the movie here:

Expect to laugh at this action packed, comedic musical filled with A-list cameos including Ty Burrell, Ray Liotta, Sean Combs, Zach Galifiankis, Celine Dion and so many more. Also, with music written by Bret McKenzie you're bound to leave the theater with at least one of these catchy tunes stuck in your head.
