You Can Take the Girl Out of West Virginia… Jennifer Garner Returns Home to Help and Inspire!
By: Susan J. Yeager
A small crowd of event ticket holders gathered outside of the Charleston Civic Center Little Theater, hoping to catch the first glimpse of the evening’s guest of honor. “Do you think she’ll be in a limo?” I wonder aloud to the nice lady standing next to me with whom I had been chatting. “Of course,” she replied. Isn’t that how all movie stars travel we guessed? We should have known better. Jennifer Garner just doesn’t roll that way. When a non-descript, mid-size, four door pulled up, hardly anyone looked twice. Until, that is, West Virginia’s most famous movie star stepped out of the front seat.
Jennifer grew up in Charleston and spent many hours working on Charleston Light Opera Guild productions like “Gypsy” and “Barnum.” She has remained close friends with her director and mentor Nina Denton Pasinetti. She told reporters that Nina was too sweet to ask for help, so she called when she realized she would be making a trip home and offered to host a benefit for the Guild. She said she realized that she sprung the news a little late, giving the guild only about 4 weeks to put together the whole event. “I’m sure that they would have liked at least six months” she reasoned. Luckily, the guild would be launching the run of their latest production, “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” around the same time Garner would be coming home.
"In brightest day, in blackest night..." Green Lantern Promises to Give Fans the Ultimate Superhero Experience
“In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, an elite, powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. Warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him the ability to create anything his mind can imagine. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds).
Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal’s humanity is one weapon no member of the Corps has ever had, and if—with willpower, determination and the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively)—Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax...he will save the Earth and all of mankind from certain destruction.”
“iParty With Victorious” Gives Nickelodeon Fans The Best of Both Worlds!
It’s the Nickelodeon 90-minute crossover that can’t be missed! The gang from iCarly travels from Seattle to Los Angeles to visit Carly’s new boyfriend ‘Steven.’ Once they arrive in L.A., Carly is met with an unfortunate surprise. Steven is also dating Tori. The iCarly crew and the gang from Hollywood Arts are brought together to work this messy situation out.
Meanwhile, guest star Kenan Thompson (who got his start on Nickelodeon as well) offers to let Andre have a party at his new house. A mistaken tweet invites way too many people and the boys have a huge party problem on their hands.
This special Nickelodeon event promises lots of laughs and of course a ton of music. Check out a promo for this movie here:
In honor of this special Nick event, we chat with Noah Munck who plays the incredibly funny “Gibby” on the show.

"Super 8" Brings Mystery and Old School Filmmaking to the Summer Blockbuster
“In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth - something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.”
In his latest film, director, producer and writer J.J. Abrams wanted to portray several different themes. First and foremost he wanted to remind kids of all ages that all it takes is an idea, a camera, and a group of friends willing to spend a summer with you, to make a movie. Second to that is the idea that even in a world filled with 24/7 information access, you can create something that contains mystery and suspense even as you see the first images on screen.

“American Idol” Crowns a New Winner and Gives Country Music Two New Super Stars!!!
It’s hard to believe that this time last year, everyone was speculating whether “American Idol” would be worth watching this season. Would anyone care to watch the aging talent show without judges like Simon Cowell and Ellen Degeneres? They would and they did with a record number 122 million votes being cast in order to determine a winner between 17 year olds Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alania.
Scotty, who hails from Garner, North Carolina is a country singer who has never shied away from professing his love for God and Jesus. His deep voice won praises from the judges during his audition last year. Consistent, good performances won him fan after fan after every performance show. He has remained humble and seems unshaken by the spotlight that he has found himself in. Let’s hope he stays that way.
Less than 16 hours after being crowned the “Idol” winner, Scotty was on the phone with reporters fielding questions about his journey to the top, his “romance” with Lauren, and what the future hold for this talented teen. Here are some of the highlights.

Sugarland’s “Incredible Machine” Tour Dispenses Great Music and A Good Time For All!
Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush are the platinum selling duo known as Sugarland. They seemed to have discovered the secret of success in the Country Music world… become entertaining musicians, write catchy songs, and then sing and play the heck out of them.
It’s a formula that not only works when it comes to radio success, it also works when the duo is live and in concert. They recently hit the road to take the music to the people who matter most, country music fans. A recent stop in Charleston, WV showcased talent, musicianship and entertaining skills that can only be developed by spending lots and lots of time on stage. Their hard work was very much appreciated by the sell-out crowd.
Singer/songwriter, Sara Bareilles, opened the show. Her powerful voice is reminiscent of another Sarah (McLachlan) and more than filled the huge space full of loud people. She maneuvered easily between instruments (the piano and guitar) to bring her hits like “Love Song” and “King of Anything” to life. Backed by a four piece band, she introduced the crowd to songs from her latest album “Kaleidoscope Heart” and then treated them to one of the first songs she had ever written, an ode to an ex-boyfriend titled “Gravity.”
After a short intermission and stage redressing, the lights dimmed and Michael Jackson’s “Black or White” played before segueing into “All We Are.” The curtain finally fell as Jennifer and Kristian took the stage. The crowd went crazy and were on their feet before the first note was sung. They stayed that way until the last note of the encore was finished. Jennifer’s voice was strong and steady through hit after hit like “Stuck Like Glue,” “It Happens,” and “Settlin.” They paused long enough for Jennifer to welcome the crowd and wish one audience member a happy 21st birthday before getting the crowd dancing on “All I Wanna Do.”
With their latest album being “The Incredible Machine,” the twosome was not going to waste the opportunity to showcase several songs from this worthy project. “Tonight,” “Every Girl Like Me,” “Little Miss,” “Find the Beat,” and the title track all got to take center stage at some point, with some cover song mash ups thrown in for good measure. The crowd let the performers know they loved the new stuff just as much as they love the older tunes.
If there was any complaint to be made, it was that there wasn’t enough time to include all of the group’s hits. Songs like “Already Gone,” “Want To,” and “Just Might (Make Me Believe)” were missed. It’s understandable that those songs would be sacrificed in the party-like atmosphere.
Which brings us to probably the most notable aspect of the night; both Jennifer and Kristian looked like they were having the time of their lives on stage. That in turn made the audience feel like they were part of some big party. It’s like Jennifer mentioned, “You think you go to the zoo to look at the monkeys, but really… they’re looking at you!” It seems like Sugarland gets as much from watching the audience as the audience gets from watching the group.
Kristian took the Jon Bon Jovi lead on “Who Says” proving that he’s more than just a great guitar and mandolin player. They seemingly finished up with “Something More” before leaving the stage and then returning for the encore. The audience was sad to see it end.
In the summer season where concerts seem to be happening all the time, it might be hard to pick and chose which shows to spend your money on. Music fans should take a chance on this Sugarland tour. This is one well-oiled machine that won’t take your money and not deliver your goods.

Nickelodeon Unites Blockbuster iCarly with Cast of New Hit Victorious in Epic Summer TV Event, 'iParty With Victorious,' Premiering Friday, June 10
Original TV Movie Brings Together iCarly and Victorious Casts for First-Time Ever; Guest Stars Kenan Thompson and Features Performance of Theme-Song Mash-up "Leave It All to Shine"
TV Movie Spearheads Season of More Than 100 New Episodes of Nick's Hit Live-Action Programming
Nickelodeon, the number-one entertainment brand for kids, will unite the casts of mega-hit iCarly and Victorious for an epic primetime event, "iParty with Victorious," an original TV movie airing Friday, June 10. The TV movie spearheads a new season of more than 100 new episodes of the network's live-action hit series, including iCarly, Victorious, Big Time Rush , True Jackson, VP and the daily telenovela-style series House of Anubis, among others. The season also will feature the launch of two new Nickelodeon live-action series, Supah Ninjas and Bucket & Skinner's Epic Adventures.
"What better way to celebrate summer than a movie mash-up with two of the biggest teen stars, Miranda Cosgrove and Victoria Justice, plus the casts of iCarly and Victorious?" said Marjorie Cohn, President, Development and Original Programming, Nickelodeon and MTV Networks Kids and Family Group. "The special TV event will deliver big comedy, as will the new episodes of iCarly, Victorious, Big Time Rush and House of Anubis, and our two newest series, Supah Ninjas and Bucket & Skinner's Epic Adventures."
"iParty with Victorious" brings the casts of Nick's hit series iCarly and Victorious together for the first time ever. One cheating boyfriend, plus two scorned girlfriends, equals a night to remember as Carly and Tori plot sweet revenge while the rest of the iCarly and Hollywood Arts gang compete in a lyrical battle royale. Culminating in an ensemble performance of the theme song mash-up, "Leave It All to Shine," the movie also guest stars Nickelodeon alumnus Kenan Thompson (Saturday Night Live, All That, Kenan & Kel) as himself.
In "iParty with Victorious," Carly is dating a boy named Steven who divides his time between his divorced parents who live in Seattle and Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Tori is also spending time with her new boyfriend who, unbeknownst to her, is the very same boy Carly is seeing! Elsewhere at Hollywood Arts, Andre is psyched because Kenan Thompson has offered to let him throw a small party in his awesome new house but the party spirals out of control when Rex sends a mass tweet. Back in Seattle, Carly suspects that Steven is cheating on her after seeing a photo of him and Tori together and plans a trip to Los Angeles to catch him in the act. After convincing Tori that Steven is cheating on both of them, Carly and Tori come together to plot their revenge at the party. Amidst all the scheming, Rex challenges the partygoers to a lyrical rap battle.
Nickelodeon will roll out more than 100 new episodes this season of its roster of hit live-action series, including iCarly ; Victorious ; Big Time Rush ; True Jackson, VP ; House of Anubis ; Nick News with Linda Ellerbee , which is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary on the air; the afternoon game show, BrainSurge; and The Troop.

Brand-New Buddy Comedy Starring Taylor Gray and Dillon Lane as Two Sun-Soaking, Beach-Loving Best Friends Joins the Network’s Successful Slate of Hit Live-Action Programming
Nickelodeon heats up the summer with the epic launch of its newest live-action comedy series, Bucket & Skinner’s Epic Adventures, premiering Friday, July 1, at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT), with a second brand-new episode airing at 8:30 p.m. The epic weekend continues with the premiere of two all-new episodes on Saturday, July 2 at 8p.m. (ET/PT) and Sunday, July 3, at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT). The series, which will air regularly on Sundays at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT), centers on two lifelong best friends on a never-ending quest for awesomeness while dealing with everyday dilemmas. Always approaching life, high school and surfing with enthusiasm, Bucket (Taylor Gray) is measured and analytical, while Skinner (Dillon Lane) is zen and carefree.
“Bucket & Skinner’s Epic Adventures is a classic buddy comedy set against the backdrop of a fantasy California beach town,” said Marjorie Cohn, Nickelodeon’s President, Development and Original Programming. “Taylor and Dillon have great comedic chemistry and you can’t help rooting for their characters, as they face every crazy situation with endless enthusiasm. And our audience will love to see True Jackson, VP’s Ashley Argota in a brand-new role as Bucket’s object of affection.” Bucket & Skinner's Epic Adventures follows two inseparable friends from Southern California with three goals in life: stay friends forever, always be near a beach and, when they’re not at a beach, find a way to get to one. In the premiere episode, “Epic Election,” Bucket attempts to win over the affection of classmate Kelly (Ashley Argota, True Jackson, VP), by running for class president, with his best bud Skinner acting as his campaign manager. However, Bucket soon realizes that he will need a lot more help to beat super-popular athlete, Aloe (Glenn McCuen, Marmaduke) and is forced to team up with the Kelly’s younger sister, the precocious Piper (Tiffany Espensen, Hop), in order to save face and try to win the heart of his dream girl.
In support of the series premiere, Nickelodeon’s multi-platform efforts include sneak peeks and promotional behind-the-scenes content that will stream on Nick.com as well as Nick’s wireless partners. Following each premiere, clips will be available via Nick’s wireless partners and full episodes will be made available for download in HD on iTunes, Sony, Xbox and Amazon. Bucket & Skinner’s Epic Adventures will also launch in the summer-themed “Surf and Burp” category on Nick’s video-on-demand.
Bucket & Skinner’s Epic Adventures is developed by executive producer Tom Lynch (The Troop, South of Nowhere) and created by executive producers Boyce Bugliari and Jamie McLaughlin (Quintuplets, Kid Notorious) under The Tom Lynch Company banner. Jonathan Stark (According to Jim) also serves as executive producer.
Taylor Gray (Bucket) is a native of the Los Angeles area and began his acting career five years ago after booking his first commercial doing stunt work for Dannon Spring Water. Shortly after, his adventure continued in a feature film entitled The Take, starring opposite John Leguizamo and Rosie Perez. Since then, he has appeared in multiple hit television series, including Numbers, Hawthorne and The Mentalist. Dillon Lane (Skinner), originally from Arizona, has been singing and acting for most of his life. With his unique sound blending acoustic with pop, his debut album Broken Promises features such virally popular songs as Never Understand My Life, Hangin on a Heartbeat, among others. Gray and Lane sing the series’ theme song, “No Worries.”
Tom Lynch, founder and CEO of The Tom Lynch Company, began his career as a rock-n-roll producer on Don Kirschner’s Rock Concert and as creator-writer-producer of Night Tracks. With an extensive roster of creating television hits to his credit—including Nickelodeon series The Troop, South of Nowhere, Romeo!, Secret World of Alex Mack, Caitlin’s Way and The Journey of Allen Strange, Lynch’s other series include Just Deal, Skate, Galidor: Defenders of the Outer Dimension, and the Emmy-nominated Scout’s Safari, which was set and filmed on location in South Africa.
He rediscovered his musical roots with the hip-hop sitcom Romeo!, starring rap artist Master P and his real-life son, Romeo and Class of 3000, co-created with André Benjamin of OutKast. Bugliari and McLaughlin previously served as writers on Comedy Central’s The Showbiz Show with David Spade and Kid Notorious and writers/producers on Fox’s Quintuplets starring Andy Richter. Stark previously co-created and served as executive producer/writer on ABC’s hit series According to Jim. Prior to that, he served as writer/producer on hit series The Drew Carey Show and Ellen and was also part of the writing team for Bob and Cheers.
Nickelodeon Greenlights "How to Rock," a New Live-Action Series Featuring Original Music Starring Cymphonique Miller
Nickelodeon announced today a 20-episode pick-up of How To Rock, a new live-action comedy series featuring original music and starring multi-talented recording artist, Cymphonique Miller. The series builds on the network’s successful slate of original live-action programming, joining the stable of hit music-themed shows Victorious and Big Time Rush. Set to premiere in 2012, How To Rock centers on Kacey Simon (Cymphonique), a talented teenager who takes her pop/hip-hop band to new heights as their lead singer. How to Rock, produced by Nickelodeon in association with Alloy Entertainment, is slated to begin production this summer in Los Angeles.
“Cymphonique is an extraordinarily talented 14 year-old who has already established herself as an actress, singer and dancer, while remaining an honor student,” said Marjorie Cohn, Nickelodeon’s President, Development and Original Programming. “How To Rock is the perfect showcase for her comedic and musical skills, and we know our audience will love watching Kacey figure out how to temper her mad ambition and learn to become a good friend and bandmate.”
After a fall from grace from the perfect and popular group at high school, Kacey Simon forges unlikely friendships with the members of the band Gravity featuring Stevie (Lulu Antariksa), Zander (Max Schneider) and Nelson (Noah Crawford). As lead singer, Kacey takes Gravity’s musical success to new heights while igniting a musical rivalry with The Perfs featuring her former best friends and fellow performers, Molly (Samantha Boscarino) and Grace (Halston Sage).
Based on a pilot script by Jim O’Doherty (Grounded for Life, 3rd Rock from the Sun, The Tracy Morgan Show) and the proposal for the upcoming Alloy Entertainment book How to Rock Braces and Glasses by Meg Haston, How to Rock will be helmed by executive producer David M. Israel (Grounded for Life, 3rd Rock from the Sun, The Tracy Morgan Show), who is also a contributing writer on the project. Leslie Morgenstein (Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries) and Gina Girolamo (The Lying Game, Nine Lives of Chloe King) will also executive produce under the Alloy Entertainment production banner.
A singer/writer/actress and daughter of hip-hop mogul/entrepreneur and philanthropist Percy Miller (also known as Master P.), Cymphonique has performed with various artists including Romeo, JoJo, Wonder Girls, Raven-Simone, Ashley Tisdale and the College Boyys. In film, Miller landed the leading role as Molly in the 2007 short film Scarecrow Joe and appeared in the feature film Opposite Day. She has guest starred in Nickelodeon series Big Time Rush, True Jackson VP, The Troop and Just Jordan and also voices the character of Holly in the animated series, Phineas & Ferb. Adding to her resume, Miller has also appeared in numerous national commercials and PSA’s.
